Four Characteristics of Church Community

In Ephesians 6:21-24 Paul brings his letter to the Ephesians to a close. In the way he closes, Paul illustrates how we should live in community as the Church. We should seek to be transparent with one another, encourage one another, and care for one another’s spiritual health. We are to live in this type of community with each other because of God’s love for us, and our love for him.

The Greatest Mystery

Paul breaks off mid-sentence in the beginning of chapter 3 to recap and marvel over a profound revelation. This is Good News…perhaps we don’t realize how good. At the center of this text lies a great, deep mystery (the word ‘mystery’ is repeated three times): a mystery reserved for the body of Christ – His Church.

Do You Know What You Have?

As we continue to study the Book of Ephesians, Paul reports on his prayers for the church at Ephesus. He desires that the recipients of his letter would have a precise and personal (“epignosis”) understanding of God Himself. Paul also records several truths that he wants his readers to KNOW. We should always be reminded of what we have in Christ Jesus.
