Prove It: Progressing in Godliness

In 1 Timothy 4:11-16, the Apostle Paul closes chapter 4 by explaining to Timothy that godly ministry is patterned by godly character — via five areas in particular. Paul also instructs his protege to wholeheartedly progress as a believer & minister of the Gospel by reading, teaching, and exhorting God’s Word. If we are to progress in OUR Christian walk (and truly live out our faith), we must prove it by persistently watching ourselves and our doctrine closely.

The Path to Pursuing Godliness

In 1 Timothy 4:6-10 we see Paul highlighting the importance of godliness. Christians are to pursue godliness by nourishing themselves with God’s Word, diligently striving to obey its commands, and recognizing the benefit of Godliness. This is all done with our hope set on the living God who has saved us in Christ Jesus.

Gospel Truth

In 2 Corinthians 4:1–4, Paul reminds us that the gospel is not something we manipulate — it is something we faithfully proclaim. “Since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart.” The gospel is a ministry of mercy. We did not earn it. We received it. And because it came through mercy, we do not give up when ministry becomes difficult.
